Help for victims of human trafficking

Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery. It involves the exploitation of people through deception, threats, and coercion for the purpose of profit. It most often affects women and girls, but men and children can also be involved.

The most common forms of human trafficking:

  • Sexual exploitation and forced prostitution

  • Forced labor (in construction, agriculture, etc.)

  • Slavery and forced servitude

  • Marriages of convenience (especially with foreigners)

  • Organ harvesting and trade

  • Coercion to commit criminal offenses or beg

What does the MARTA Center offer?

Victims of human trafficking are provided with free social rehabilitation services – up to 180 days (can be extended if necessary). Services are tailored to the needs of each person and are provided in a safe environment.

Individual consultations

  • Social worker

  • Psychologist

  • Lawyer

  • Medical personnel

Support in criminal proceedings

  • Assistance in giving testimony

  • Providing a companion if necessary

  • Safe haven

  • Accommodation in a crisis center or other safe place

Life skills restoration

  • Developing self-care skills

  • Support in education or job search

Family support

  • Up to five consultations for the victim's minor family members (if they reside in Latvia)

Repatriation from abroad

  • Organizing transport from abroad

  • Providing a companion if children are traveling or the victim is in an unstable condition

  • Individual rehabilitation plan:

  • An individual assistance plan is developed for each person.

How to apply for help?

To receive help, you do not need to have official status as a "victim of human trafficking" - suspicion or personal experience is enough.

Important

  • Assistance is provided throughout Latvia

  • Consultations are also possible remotely

  • Help is also possible for people who have not yet contacted the police.

  • Complete confidentiality and security are ensured

You have the right to request temporary protection from an abuser. The MARTA Center will help you prepare the necessary documents, provide legal advice and support throughout the process.
