The FAIRCOM report examines how victims of sexual crimes can access compensation across several EU countries. Despite progress in EU legislation ensuring victims' rights—such as the right to information, respectful treatment, and support—victims of sexual violence still face major barriers. Reporting rates remain low, and even when cases proceed, conviction and compensation rates are discouragingly minimal.

Only a small fraction of victims receives any financial redress, and often, awarded sums are never paid. This report highlights the need for stronger, more systematic mechanisms to ensure that victims not only access justice but are adequately compensated for the harm they’ve endured. The findings emphasize the empowerment potential of compensation and call for policy reform to make justice more accessible and meaningful for survivors.
