Read more...    In the General Assembly of the Association Resource Centre for Women „Marta” 28.March, 2009 were adopted resolution Vision of Women’s Safety in Latvia On December 10 there was a round table discussion for a united vision of “Women’s Safety in Latvia”. Experts from NGOs that work against violence against women discussed future cooperation. They agreed on actions on how to influence some crucial decision making processes in the government and the Parliament. Shelter for women

Non governmental organization Resource Centre for Women “Marta” has three year long experience of preventive work and rehabilitation work with victims of trafficking in human beings. Our long term target is to built a shelter for women who have been trafficked (both for Latvian and/or foreign citizens). Right now organization purchased the house approx. 200 km from Riga, on the countryside. The house is in a very bad condition and needs reconstruction. The main idea is to create a small community for suffered women to provide safe living surrounding, peace, comfortable life conditions and permanent help from specialists to regain self respect, trust in people, skills and knowledge to protect themselves, to reintegrate into society and continue/start independent lives. No more than 5 women and 2-3 full time specialists will be in the shelter in the same time. We also plan to provide possibilities for involvement into everyday activities (maintenance, cooking, cleaning, and gardening) and recreation. There is no such a shelter for trafficked women or even for women who suffered from any kind violence in Latvia. Our partners are the Ministry of Welfare, the Ministry of Interior Affairs,  the State Policy and local municipality.
