Social integration Violence and human trafficking Women’s NGO Network PREVENT HUMAN TRAFFICKING!
Social integration LVRU

The labour market in Latvia is not friendly for women, EU official information testifies that employment indicators compared between genders show different attitude towards men and women, difference in working conditions, in salary and lower remuneration for the same job, although legislation prohibits gender-based discrimination.

Statistical data from Latvia shows that women’s remuneration is on average 19.5 % lower than men’s, women are more often employed in occupations with lower remuneration, more often work only part time, which means less social tax payment and a lower age pension later.

The Central Statistical Office provides information that in 29% families (so called one-parent families) women are the only providers and care-takers for children. These are mostly women who provide care for sick, disabled and elderly family members, doing unpaid jobs at home.

The resource centre for women „Marta” is involved in activities to reduce social exclusion – enhance access of the labour market and reintegration into the labour market, reconciliation of family and career, promoting more flexible and efficient forms of work organisation and support services, as well as reduction of social tension and rehabilitation and reintegration of victims of human trafficking.
